Getting a job as a Wall Street economist is supposed to require great skill. But apparently that skill doesn’t mean developing the ability to forecast big events like recessions.
A year and a half after the ‘recession call’ started and we still have no recession. In fact, the U.S. is now growing faster than it has in ages. It flies in the face of the collective message from Wall Street. And that has me wondering what’s up. Read more here.

Unemployment remains low, with millions of unfilled job openings, and the economy keeps growing. “It’s hard to apply normal economic analysis in the post-pandemic world,” says Win Thin, global head of currency strategy at New York-based Brown Brothers Harriman. Hard, yes, but not impossible. Read more here.

The German Federal government just confirmed that the economy has now been in recession for three straight quarters through to the end of June. And that doesn’t even take into account the current situation nor the likely future for the country.
“We suspect that household and government consumption will continue be very weak and think investment will contract,” states a recent report from London-based financial consulting company Capital Economics. Read more here.
